While it isn't goodbye with Andy Murray still playing with Emma Raducanu, it is a designated farewell at Wimbledon for the British hero as he lost out to Rinky Hijikata and John Peers with his brother Jamie Murray.
Wanting to play singles against Tomas Machac and perhaps have his farewell in a different way, Murray received the adulation of a myriad of top names and those who have been rivals and close allies in his career. A video package played which tugged on the heart strings and featured Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams among others.
He was then given a rousing applause on Centre Court by those in attendance including Djokovic as well as John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martinez, Laura Robson, Tim Henman and his compatriots including Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans.
All people who have had some impact on the career of one of the greatest sportsman that the UK has ever seen. He will bow out at some point after the summer but despite the fact that he couldn't play singles, he had his big final memory. At the end of it all, he cried as did everyone else on the court.
He then had one lasting memory with his brother Jamie Murray sobbing into his arms as the brothers who have spent their careers intwined in the sport albeit in separate paths but together shared their one and only Grand Slam as a team. A superb tribute to a sporting icon.
