Matteo Berrettini made a dramatic comeback in Gstaad and his reward will be facing Dominic Thiem for a place in the semifinal.
The Italian is looking forward to the matchup because it's a prospect of another final which would be the 3rd since he returned from injury and because he likes playing against Thiem. Berrettini is on an active 11-match winning streak that started on the grass courts of Stuttgart and he is hoping to make it 12 in a row but it won't be easy.
Speaking about his comeback win, Matteo said:
“Sometimes it’s just tennis, it’s a crazy sport. I was thinking ‘wow 5-1, I think I’m done.’ And then I played two good points and then I thought ‘ok, now it’s 5-3, let’s try.’ I guess I was more ready in that moment. It’s important to win when you’re not feeling that well. I found some energy inside me.”
Up next will be Thiem whom Berrettini leads 3-2 in the H2H. The only match on clay was won by Thiem and on playing the Austrian, Berrettini said:
“Dominic has an unbelievable career. He’s a Slam champion already. Right now, I saw some of his games today, and he’s coming back to his level. So I know it’s going to be a really tough match. We always play great matches. Best of luck to him, but I mean."
