Andy Murray played his last Wimbledon event last year, just before permanently stepping away from the court. He had planned to play the mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu, but she pulled out just beforehand, leaving Murray and his team very angry.
The Scot has built up a legacy at SW19, winning the title twice, along with clinching Olympic gold on Centre Court back in 2012. Henman Hill has been renamed the Murray Mound, and he is due to get a statue in 2027, on the 150th anniversary of the event.
He planned to bow out of the tournament in the doubles, playing alongside his brother, Jamie Murray, in the men's event, while teaming up with Raducanu in the mixed doubles. However, one of these did not come into fruition, as Raducanu decided to go back on her promise to Murray, making sure she was 100% ready for her singles tie against eventual quarter-finalist Lulu Sun.
In a statement at the time, she said:"I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles. I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care."

Murray and Raducanu cleaned the air

Her decision left fans bemused, and Murray, along with his team, visibly angry. He was unable to enter with a new partner, leaving him in just the men's doubles. Since then, he has exchanged some messages with the number one Brit and has told The Times that they are on good terms.
"We exchanged multiple messages since Wimbledon and things were fine after we cleared everything up. It was obviously a pretty emotional time for me and everyone around me, so it was hard but, like I said, I was really happy with the way that my career finished.
"I got to play my last match at Wimbledon with my brother. Emma’s not someone that beforehand we were communicating all the time or discussing ideas about her game and things like that, so that hasn’t changed.”
The Murray brothers were defeated in the opening round, losing out to Australian pair Rinky Hijikata, and John Peers in a closely fought match. He went on to retire at the 2024 Paris Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals before he and Dan Evans were knocked out by the American pair Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.

Murray avoiding talking about British number one's

A former British and even world number one, Murray knows a thing or two about being at the top of tennis, specifically British tennis. Raducanu and Jack Draper are now carrying the flag for their country, and the pressure that comes with that to perform at the highest level and win titles. Murray does not want to add any more pressure on the pair, citing his annoyance when it happened to him.
“I know when I was a young British player I found it very, very unhelpful when people that you knew or looked up to were being critical of you after losses publicly,” he said. “You respect their opinions and often they might differ from what your coach is telling you. When you’re 20 years old, you’re still responsible for the team that you employ.
“If you’ve got an ex-British No. 1 or an ex-world No. 1 saying they don’t agree with how you hit your forehand or the strategy you use in matches, it can be a bit undermining. I know pundits have to do that, but it’s really not helpful for young players, in particular, who maybe are not able to block that out and trust their coaches. If any of the younger British players ever want to talk to me privately, I would always do that.”
