Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Germany’s Alexander Zverev and
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov were involved in a funny banter after playing a pivotal
role in Team’s Europe success in the Laver Cup 2024. The two-team event
concluded on Sunday, and Team Europe came out on top for the first time in
three years with a score of 13-11.
It was Spain’s Alcaraz who threw the final punch to the Team
World as he defeated America’s Taylor Fritz in the last encounter of the
competition with a score of 6-2, 7-5. Just before that, world number two Germany’s
Zverev came back from a set down to keep Team Europe’s hopes alive after
beating America’s Frances Tiafoe with a score of 6-7, 7-5, 10-5.
Bulgaria’s Dimitrov won his tie against Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo
on the opening day of the competition in straight sets with a score of 7-6,
7-6. After the match, all three players were involved in a hilarious banter
while talking to the media. Alcaraz and Zverev kept pushing Dimitrov to complete
his promise of getting naked after Team Europe won the Laver Cup. However, the
Bularia’s tennis star denied making any such promise with his teammates or with
anyone in the media.
"We win, Grigor gets naked, just for the female fans.
And for Bjorn," said Zverev.
"She wants to see it. She wants to see it.
(Laughter)," Alcaraz said while supporting the German.
"What was my promise again?" responded Dimitrov.
"I don't remember what it was exactly, but --,"
Zverev answered.
"You say [get] naked or something like that," was the
response of the Spaniard.
"I was just naked in the locker room. Did I say that,
guys, really? Tell me exactly what I said," said Dimitrov.
"No, Sascha said when the Team Europe wins, Grigor has
to get naked," the reporter stated.
"And you agreed," said Zverev.
"She wants to see it. She remember," joked Alcaraz.
