Wimbledon 2025 is nearing its conclusion, with both the women’s and men’s singles finals confirmed. The women’s singles final will feature Poland’s
Iga Swiatek and America’s
Amanda Anisimova. On the other hand, the men’s final will see world number one
Jannik Sinner going up against the defending champion
Carlos Alcaraz.
This year, the finals will be played at a slightly different time. As per the English media outlet Daily Express, both finals will begin at 16:00 local time, two hours later than last year. The reason behind taking such a move was to increase viewership. The report further stated that last year, the women’s final between Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolini drew 400 thousand fewer viewers compared to the final before.
The decision was reportedly taken last year. According to the report, the doubles final, which used to be played after the singles final, will now be played before. All England Club CEO Sally Bolton spoke at length about the issue back in October last year, where she stated that the decision was taken in the best interests of the competition.
“We have adjusted the provisional schedule for the final weekend of The Championships with the ambition of improving the experience for all involved,” she said back then. “The doubles players competing in the finals will have increased certainty over their schedule and fans will enjoy each day’s play as it builds towards the crescendo of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles finals, with our champions being crowned in front of the largest possible worldwide audience.”
The decision might become an awkward one if the men’s singles final between Sinner and Alcaraz goes to its full length. The two players recently featured in the final of the Roland Garros, where Alcaraz came out on top in a five-set thriller with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. The match lasted more than five hours and officially became the second-longest final in the history of Grand Slams in the Open era.
