Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe will face off in an exhibition match in Puerto Rico this Sunday, organized by Rio 2016 gold medalist Monica Puig, who will be a special guest for this high-profile tennis showdown. The match between the American and the Spaniard serves as a final stop before Indian Wells.
Alcaraz has taken part in several exhibitions over the past year and did not miss the chance to compete in the second edition of the ‘Battle of Legends’ during the week leading up to Indian Wells. The four-time Grand Slam champion last played at the Qatar Open, where he was eliminated on 20 February in the quarterfinals by Jiri Lehecka.
While the Spaniard awaits his debut in California—set for either Friday or Saturday next week—he has landed in Puerto Rico to face Frances Tiafoe. The American played in the Mexican Open this week but only reached the second round before being knocked out by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
It promises to be an exciting match between two seeded players at Indian Wells, with Alcaraz ranked No. 3 and Tiafoe No. 17. The exhibition will take place on Sunday at 7 PM ET (Monday, 01:00 AM CET) and will be broadcast live on Tennis Channel. Subscribers to the platform will be able to watch the showdown between these two showmen.
The pair have already delivered thrilling encounters in the past, with Alcaraz leading their head-to-head 2-1. Tiafoe claimed victory at the Barcelona Open in 2021, while Alcaraz won their last two meetings—both in five sets—at the 2022 US Open semifinals and the 2024 Wimbledon third round. On both occasions, the Spaniard went on to win the tournament.
