More players have withdrawn from the upcoming National Bank
Open. The tournament is set to be played in Toronto from August 5.
As per recent reports, some big names have already ruled
themselves out of the competition.
The most notable name is the current world number Serbia’s
legendary tennis
Novak Djokovic.
Other than him, the likes of home favourite Canada’s Denis
Shapovalov is now also out of the competition.
The other three big players who will not take part in the
event include Russia’s
Karen Khachanov, Croatia’s
Marin Cilic and Australia’s Nick
Kyrgios.
Khachanov has not played in the recent past because of a
stress fracture and it seems that the same injury has ruled him out of the
upcoming competition as well.
On the other hand, Cilic has already announced that he will not
take part in the North American tour because of a knee injury.
Out of all those players, Kyrgios' absence remains the only one who
would’ve definitely surprised many as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has suffered
from fitness concerns and has not played in any of the major competitions this
year.
