Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios has criticised BBC commentator Andrew
Castle for spoiling the
Wimbledon 2023 final.
The third Grand Slam of the year came to an end on Sunday
when the current world number one Carlos Alcaraz defeated legendary Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic in the final with a score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
That result ended the 36-year-old remarkable winning streak
of 34 matches at the grass court, which started way back in 2018.
During the match, Kyrgios, on his official
Twitter account,
lambasted Castle who was commentating for BBC by stating: “Whoever is the clown
next to Woodbridge in that commentator box needs to just not speak. Spoiling
the match big time.”
His comments were agreed by some of the users on Twitter who
admitted that Castle is not doing justice with the game that lasted four hours
and 42 minutes.
Kyrgios, who was the runner-up in the Wimbledon 2022 after
losing to Djokovic in the final with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6, missed this
year’s event because of an injury.
