The
American presenter Mark Wilbon expressed the opinion that Novak Djokovic would
not win any more Grand Slam titles before the French Open, and fans reminded
him of this on Instagram after Djokovic's impressive campaign.
Just before
the start of the French Open, when the main draw was announced, 'Nole' was
listed as the third seed behind Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. Despite
coming off a recent Australian Open victory, tennis presenter Mark Wilbon
asserted that Djokovic would not win another Grand Slam.
“This means
that he will be eliminated early, as soon as he is in that part of the draw
with Alcaraz, he will play him earlier than he should, he will be eliminated.
It’s over for Novak, age, injury… It was the same with Federer and Nadal. He
lasted longer than all three, but he won’t win another Slam. He won’t even make
it to the finals“,
Following
that statement, Djokovic went on to win Roland Garros, Cincinnati, the US Open,
and the Paris Masters, claiming the trophy in four out of five tournaments. His
only loss was in the Wimbledon final, where he missed a significant opportunity
against Carlos Alcaraz.
Since then,
Djokovic has had a record of 34-2, including the loss in the round-robin
against Jannik Sinner. However, he ultimately advanced to the semifinals, where
he defeated Alcaraz and then obtained revenge against the Italian Sinner,
securing the title.
“It’s over
for Djokovic….I don’t think he’s gonna get another Slam….Goodnight, he won’t
even be around 4 the finals….He’s done.”
Djokovic
still has one last challenge to face at the end of the season. After winning
the title in Turin, he quickly traveled to Malaga to play in the Davis Cup
Finals with the Serbian team. The team led by the 24-times Grand Slam champion
will compete in the quarterfinals on Thursday, November 23, against Great
Britain, and 'Nole' is expected to participate in both singles and doubles.
