Wimbledon is one of the most famous tennis events in the world and it's returning in 2021 with organizers hoping for 50 % capacity at the event.
The event is due to start on June 28th and will run for a fortnight as any Grand Slam does. The situation in the UK regarding the pandemic and vaccination is not ideal for such a huge event but officials are hopeful they will be able to push the capacity to 50 % even if the UK Government delays easing of the restrictions.
The planned easing of restrictions should take effect one week ahead of the event on June 21st which would allow organizers to extend the capacity to over 25 %. Recent rumblings have suggested that the easing might be delayed for four weeks but several Government officials are in favour of making Wimbledon an exception.
The exception would serve as a test for how the situation would be handled and if the capacity were to be increased, around 21 000 spectators would be allowed entry each day. Spectators will most likely be asked for vaccination passports or negative test before entry onto the grounds.
