Thiem won his only Grand Slam back in 2020, when he defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the US Open final in a five-set thriller, winning by scores of 2–6, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6(8–6).
Soon after achieving that milestone, Thiem suffered a serious wrist injury and he never managed to return to his very best.
Ever since winning the only Grand Slam of his career, the Wiener Neustadt-born star has never managed to play beyond the fourth round of any major tournament in 10 attempts.
On eight occasions, he was knocked out of the competition in the first round or during the qualifying stage. His most recent appearance in the mega-event was at the Roland Garros where he lost in the second qualifying round to Otto Virtanen with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
