Jannik Sinner canceled his Tuesday morning practice after experiencing discomfort during his fourth-round match against
Grigor Dimitrov. The World No. 1 survived a tough encounter where the Bulgarian retired due to physical issues, despite being two sets up in the third set.
Dimitrov suffered an unfortunate injury that forced him to withdraw when it seemed he could deliver a major upset against Sinner. However, the Italian also had to receive medical treatment on his elbow during a medical timeout in the second set.
According to TNT Sports, Sinner underwent an MRI on Tuesday. The three-time Grand Slam champion had reserved one of
Wimbledon's training courts for Tuesday morning but ultimately canceled his practice at Aorangi Park.
There is no official information yet from Sinner's team, but concerns are mounting about whether he will be 100% physically ready this Wednesday to face
Ben Shelton in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Sinner had detailed in his post-victory press conference against Dimitrov that he would need to monitor his physical discomfort after an unfortunate fall during the match against the former ATP Finals champion. "I checked the videos a little bit, and it didn’t seem a tough one, but I still felt it quite a lot, especially on serve and forehand."
"I could feel it. So let’s see. Tomorrow we are going to check to see how it is, and then we see,” the World No. 1 added. "Tomorrow we are going to check with MRI to see if there’s something serious, and then we’ll try to adjust it."
Sinner will return to the court this Wednesday on Court No. 1 against World No. 10 Ben Shelton. Their match is scheduled for approximately 3 PM, after the completion of the quarterfinal match between Iga Swiatek (4th) and Liudmila Samsonova (19th) from the women's draw.
