Italy’s tennis star
Jannik Sinner believes that winning a
title validates an athlete's efforts behind the scenes.
The 22-year-old has recently won his ninth ATP title after lifting
the China Open title with a straight-set win over the current world number
three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
Sinner was quoted in a report recently where he stated that
he is extremely happy with his training effort following a disappointing outing
in the recently concluded US Open.
“Yes, I am very happy with how I trained after the US Open,”
he said. “You all don't see the effort, but it's there. Very long days, between
the court and the gym. I only feel good if I'm completely exhausted in the end,
because it means I trained the right way. Winning a tournament doesn't change your life,
but it validates what you do."
That victory was a much-needed one for Sinner as despite
having all the talent in the world, he failed to qualify in the quarterfinal or
beyond in three out of the four Grand Slams this year.
The only time he did manage to qualify beyond the fourth
round was at Wimbledon where he lost the semifinal to the current world number
one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
