Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz has stated
that he would prefer winning an Olympic gold medal over lifting a Grand Slam
title in 2024.
The 20-year-old is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated
players currently playing in the men’s singles category along with the likes of
Italy’s Jannik Sinner and America’s Ben Shelton.
Alcaraz was recently quoted in a report where he stated that
he would rather want to win a gold medal for his country in Olympics than
winning another Grand Slam in 2024. “Win another Grand Slam and a Medal at the
Olympics. If I have to choose only one, winning the Gold Medal in Paris,” he
said.
Alcaraz had a more than impressive time on the court in 2023
where he ended up winning his second Grand Slam. He defeated Serbia’s legendary
tennis star and the current world number one Novak Djokovic in the final at
Wimbledon in a five-set thrilling finale with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1,
3–6, 6–4.
Before that, the current world number two also won the US
Open in 2022 — which was his maiden Grand Slam title — after defeating Norway’s
Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
