Former player Todd Woodbridge thinks that Novak Djokovic could win the calendar grand slam this year but if he doesn't he picked Sinner as the likely player to prevent.
Jannik Sinner has been slowly becoming better and better and Woodbridge believes that the Italian is ready to win his maiden grand slam. He's never been in a final but he's made some deep runs before and it's likely to happen sooner rather than later. The Australian admitted it was a bold prediction but he could see it happen:
“I think that if things fall right for Jannik, he certainly
is a player that can win his first Major in this season, if Novak
Djokovic doesn’t get through on that men’s side. Big bold prediction that I’ve made.”
To Woodbridge, Sinner has simply been maturing at the right pace and doing things the right way. Sooner or later his chance will come and the Australia believes that he will be ready:
“Jannik Sinner. I think he’s just maturing at the right rate. Incrementally just small bits in there and the rise is continual and I think the belief is continual with him also. He’s working with Darren Cahill – one of the most successful coaches that the game has seen over the last 25 years. Darren is just putting into his mind all of the experience of what he knows those Major winners need to have."
