Paula Badosa was overcome with frustration during her clash with Danielle Collins resulting in a racquet throw and code violation.
It was the second set and 5-3 for Collins with Badosa serving. After she dropped an advantage Badosa was overcome with frustration and threw her racquet onto the court. The Spaniard was given a code violation by the umpire after which she threw a tantrum on the court.
The umpire clarified his position during the changeover, believing her to be aiming at one of the camera people working on the court which left her baffled as she reasons that she didn't aim at anybody:
"You know, first, before her, there’s the camera. I threw it three meters from there! Yes, yes, three meters, and after this point! I mean, can you empathize a little? Can you empathize a little? No. You didn’t. The first time, the first time in the match! The first time in the match that I threw the racquet. It’s not someone’s direction! It’s over there! Someone’s direction? No. You have no f*cking idea!”
Collins would hold serve to win the match and secure the semi-finals while Badosa makes her way down to Guadalajara.
