Stefano Tsitsipas ATP finals 2020
Stefanos Tsitsipas fought really hard to reach the Rotterdam semifinals over Alex De Minaur who gave the Greek a lot of trouble despite failing to a win a set.
Alex de Minaur is known as the Speed Demon and Tsitispas knows why. The Australian tennis player is lightning quick capable of covering the court extremely well. It's something that gave Tsitsipas a lot of trouble because he could not hit through de Minaur. He said:
"There were moments today when I was literally hitting the ball really hard, almost hitting the lines back-to-back, and he was able to get those balls back, and not only get them back but also counter-attack which was very impressive to say the least."
Tsitsipas kept his composure and attacked without committing mistakes and he credited that as a key thing in the victory:
"You have to be patient, you’ve got to wait and see if he can do it over and over again. I took my time, I tried to understand what works for me and what doesn’t, and with the right momentum, with the right intention, things kind of paid off.
Tsitsipas was ahead of the De Minaur score-wise the entire match and it gave him a lot of confidence ins his own words. His serve worked and he will need a similar approach against the youngster Lehecka who was nothing to lose. On that matchup, Stefanos said:
“He [Lehecka] has been on a very good winning streak. I think he’s a young talent that can play really good tennis. It’s never easy playing someone who you haven’t faced before, so match preparation will be very important heading towards tomorrow’s battle.”
