Qinwen Zheng had little hesitation when asked to name the ATP Tour’s most handsome player, picking a former top-10 star ahead of her compatriot Yibing Wu during a hilarious livestream. The exchange saw the Chinese pair joke about looks, confidence and six-pack abs, with Wu eventually asking Zheng to explain who she believed outshone him in the tennis world.
The conversation came after Zheng won the
China Open, where she claimed her
first WTA 1000 title. The Olympic champion joined Wu for a livestream on a Chinese social media platform, and their discussion moved from his recent performances to a playful debate about physical appearance. While Wu tried to defend his own standing, Zheng made it clear that he had competition when it came to the looks department.
The funniest moment came when Wu asked Zheng to name the player she considered more handsome than him. Her answer was immediate, and Wu’s reaction gave the conversation another twist.
But before the former top-10 star entered the discussion, the pair had already been teasing each other about Wu’s confidence and what he might need to improve to break into the ATP top 20.
Zheng names the ATP Tour’s most handsome player
The discussion turned directly to looks when Wu brought up a question about Zheng’s preferences. “Someone asking, who do you think is handsome? Who’s your type, relatively speaking?”
Zheng wanted to clarify whether he meant within tennis.
“You mean in the field of tennis?”
“Yeah, let’s talk about the tennis world. People are probably a bit more familiar with that. I mean, who totally ‘outshines me’?” Wu replied.

Zheng then gave her answer, naming Italian star
Matteo Berrettini, a former world No. 6.
“Berrettini, definitely is one.”
Wu was surprised by the comparison and asked whether Berrettini really had the edge over him. “Berrettini beats me?”
“Obviously,” Zheng replied.
Wu then jokingly challenged her to bring the Italian into the livestream. “Well, get him on live!”
Zheng did offer Wu a compliment, although she made sure to distinguish his appeal from Berrettini’s. “Well, you’re handsome too," the former world No. 4 added. "In a more boy-next-door kind of way.”
Zheng teases Wu about confidence and six-pack abs
The exchange about Berrettini followed another playful section of the livestream in which Zheng suggested that she might have helped Wu perform better at the US Open by giving him a confidence boost.
“I feel like I might’ve had something to do with your performance at the US Open. Did I give you a little confidence boost?” Zheng asked.
Wu responded with a joke about wanting to escape the conversation.
“How to end this live call!?”
Zheng continued the teasing by making clear that Wu was not her idea of a handsome tennis player. “Wu Yibing isn’t what I’d call handsome, I’m sorry!”
“I know, I’m not your type,” Wu replied.
She then turned her attention to his physique, suggesting that developing six-pack abs could help his tennis ambitions. “So, Wu Yibing, when are you gonna get those six-pack abs? Then you can break into the top 20.”
Wu rejected the idea that he needed to change his appearance to reach that ranking. “I don’t need six-pack abs to get into the top 20.”
Zheng was not convinced. “I think your chances would be better if you get those abs.”
“Please don’t pay so much attention to my abs,” Wu hilariously responded.
The exchange showed the relaxed dynamic between the two Chinese players, with Zheng leading the teasing and Wu playing along. Their conversation offered a lighter moment away from competition, with Berrettini ultimately emerging as Zheng’s clear choice in the looks department.
Zheng has had plenty to celebrate following her breakthrough in Beijing. She defeated Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the China Open final to secure her first WTA 1000 title, adding another milestone to a career that already includes Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
Her next tournament, however, ended prematurely. Zheng
withdrew from the Wuhan Open because of a right shoulder injury, interrupting her attempt to build on the momentum from Beijing. While her immediate focus remains on returning to competition, her livestream with Wu gave fans a glimpse of her playful side—and made her preference among the ATP Tour’s leading men abundantly clear.
