Zverev acquires second title this season with impressive victory at Paris Masters

Germany’s Alexander Zverev outclassed France’s Ugo Humbert to lift the Paris Masters. The ATP 1000 event in Paris came to an end on Sunday with a final between the home favourite and the soon going-to-be world number two.

It was only the third meeting between the two players. In the previous two meetings, both players came out on top on one occasion. Their previous meeting was during the same competition last year where Zverev came out on top with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. The result on Sunday was not a different one as well as it was once again the German tennis star who came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2 .

In the first set, Zverev committed just three unforced errors, five fewer than his opponent. He won 94 percent service points as well. In the second set, not much improved for Humbert as he once again committed six unforced errors, three more than the winning player. In the second set, Zverev produced nine winners, six more than his rival. Overall, the 27-year-old committed six unforced errors, eight fewer than his opponent, whereas he produced 16 winners, six more than Humbert.

Despite having a fabulous season, it was Zverev’s only second title this season. He previously lifted the Rome Masters earlier this year in April where he got the better of Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5. With that win, Zverev, who is amongst five players who have already booked their spot in the ATP Finals this year, is now also set to climb to the number two spot in the ATP rankings. He will be replacing Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz who was knocked out of the Paris Masters after losing to Humbert in the round of 16 with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
