Alexander Zverev is through to the 2nd round of Wimbledon after defeating Tallon Griekspoor 6-3 6-4 6-1.
Alexander Zverev came out strong in his first-round match against Griekspoor whom he defeated in straight sets. Zverev and Griekspoor started playing with an open roof but midway through the match, the roof closed as the rain started falling. Either way, he Zverev was feeling it early and he broke Griekspoor early to take a 3-0 lead.
He added another one to take a 5-1 break but ultimately won the opening set with 6-3. The German played well hitting his serve at a high rate accumulating 12 winners to 5 errors. In the 2nd he posted very similar numbers once again hitting 12 winners including 8 aces.
Griekspoor held his won fairly well in the set especially later on when his serve got better. Zverev won the 2nd with 6-4 and proceeded to completely demolish Grieksport in the 3rd. The 3rd featured indoor conditions which suited Zverev well. He took a double break lead 5-1 and from there he cruised to a 6-2 finish.
A very good start for Zverev who will be glad to avoid a slow start to his Grand Slam campaign whiche tends to happen more often than not.
