Alexander Zverev cruised past John Millman in the 2nd round of the Australian Open with the final score being 6-4 6-4 6-0.
Alexander Zverev played a fairly solid match against John Millman in Melbourne to move on to the next round of the Australian Open. It was once again not the greatest of matches by Zverev but he was once again able to keep it in straight sets which is the most important thing. He started off the match with an early break in the first set.
He almost added another one but Millman was able to stabilize a bit a find a rhythm. Zverev pulled back the aggression a bit and mainly focused on his own serve. That was enough to secure the first with 6-4. The 2nd set featured a very similar outcome. He was once again up early 3-1 but this time around Millman actually forced a few break points.
After saving them, Zverev was able to hold his serve rather comfortably to win the 2nd set with 6-4. His serve troubled him in the 2nd set as he committed 5 double faults and that was worrisome to see. He did have a lot of issues with that in the past so a return to those habits is not a welcome sight. The 3rd set was the best set Zverev played all event.
His opponent helped him greatly in that endeavour as he completely fell apart. He rushed which worked well with Zverev who was looking to close it out quickly as well. The combined effort resulted in a 3rd set bagel. A good match from Zverev who will be happy to move on.
