Fans had a field day on social media as Germany’s Alexander
Zverev suffered a surprising defeat in Munich. The 27-year-old suffered a rather
surprising defeat to Chile’s Cristian Garin in the quarterfinal of the BMW Cup
with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
The match had some interesting moments as Zverev ended up having
a heated exchange of words with the chair umpire for not stopping the match during
the rain. “At what point are we gonna do something? At what point? Just tell
me. Are we not gonna do anything the entire match? Then I’m done. I’m just
gonna tank the next two games and I’m done. This is ridiculous,” he said.
After the result, a certain section of the fans on social
media had a field day as they highlighted how the current world number five has
regressed to his old self. “He’s such a diva…even when he has a valid point,” one
fan wrote. “Zverev has no pride,” another fan wrote. The result will not go down
well for the German tennis star, who, despite having an impressive season, has
yet to play in the final of any event. The Hamburg-born has been knocked out of
the events in the quarterfinals twice and in the semifinals three times in the 2024
season.
