It was a crucial match for Team Europe. A do-or-die encounter. Frances Tiafoe, on the other hand, could be more relaxed, knowing that even if Team World lost, there was still a chance for victory with Taylor Fritz. However, the American also knew that his compatriot would have to face a very in-form Carlos Alcaraz. Tiafoe started strong, but Alexander Zverev made a comeback, showing his strength at the end and winning 6-7(5), 7-5, [10-5].

Tiafoe finishes the first set strong

The match began evenly, with Zverev having the first chances to tilt the balance in his favor. He had three break points but failed to convert them, and they steadily headed towards a tiebreak to decide the first set. Again, both players played a very even match, but Tiafoe finished with a bang and put his team one set away from the Laver Cup with an ace.

Zverev responds just in time

The second set began similarly to the first. However, this time it was the American who had break points in his favor, and he took advantage of them. It seemed like he was on his way to victory when, with the score at 4-2, Sascha won a game to love on return and got back into the fight for victory.
Both players held their serves without much trouble until 6-5, when Tiafoe served to stay alive in the set and force another tiebreak. In the longest game of the match, Zverev had three chances to level the score and send the match to a final super tiebreak. He didn't succeed at first, but on the fourth attempt, he did, showing that he was physically stronger than his rival.

Alcaraz has the chance to secure the Laver Cup for Europe

The tension on the court was palpable, with more unforced errors than winning shots, but the parity between the two players remained. With the score at 5-5, Zverev sped up and won the final tiebreak 10-5, keeping Team Europe's hopes alive.
The decisive point will be played by Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz, in the first edition since the inaugural 2017 where everything will be decided in a final duel.
