Zverev smashes Molcan to advance at Roland Garros

In his first match on Chatrier since his gruesome ankle injury, Alexander Zverev proved too good smashing Alex Molcan in three sets 6-4 6-2 6-1.

This was a really fabulous performance from Zverev in his return to Chatrier. He didn't look very nervous and played quite aggressively knowing he was the better player. It was his best match at this event and one of his best matches since coming back from injury this year. The score was impressive but it wasn't as easy as it might suggest.

Zverev really outplayed his opponent and that is why the score was the way it was as Molcan was pretty fair. The Slovakian didn't have his best day from the baseline missing quite a few balls but Zverev pushed him in most rallies. Molcan upped his aggressiveness as the match went on but his winners didn0t really increase that much.

His errors did and he ended up with 23 overall which is not terrible. It doesn't look good either when his winners are only at 12. When it comes to Zverev he was pretty good with 42 winners and 29 unforced errors. The backhand was particularly strong since the start of the match and it gave Molcan a lot of problems.

Overall just a very good match from the German. Looked very much like last year's Zverev.
