The vast
majority of tennis fans will be eagerly watching on for the entertainment that
will be on show at the
2025 Roland Garros tournament in Paris, France as the
month of May comes to a close, and whilst there will be plenty of action and
headlines created at the French Open, the traditionalists amongst us will be
waiting for the grass court season to open as we progress through June - and
that, of course, means that it is almost time for this summers' Wimbledon
competition.
The All England Club Grand Slam is always a
huge draw for tennis fans across the globe and the odds on the weather being
good for the tournament right now are high, however, as will be normal for
England's premier tennis competition, those lucky enough to be in attendance
can expect plenty of strawberries and cream.
Although we are still a month off the first
serve, anticipation is already building for the tournament as the Entry Lists
and Alternatives have now been released and there will be the usual plethora of
international talent on display with Jannik Sinner ranked number one in the
gentleman's list and Aryna Sabalenka topping the ladies' list.
With British number one Jack Draper gaining
plenty of headlines so far this year, his impressive start to the 2025 calendar
has seen him rewarded with fifth place in the seeding charts, and is currently
priced at
10/1 with Betway, making him the fourth favourite to win the
tournament.
The 23 year
old Indian Wells champion will be delighted to see himself ranked higher than
last years' finalist and seven time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic. Draper
is joined on the men's list by former top tenner Cameron Norrie and highly
rated, and rising, Scottish star Jacob Fearnley. As the weeks move on British
entries may number four as Billy Harris could join them as he has been named as
the third alternative to the main draw.
On the ladies side, British number one Katie
Boulter is the highest ranked of the three British women who feature, ahead of
both Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal. With Raducanu returning to fitness and
beginning to show some form on the women's tour, she is only five points behind
Boulter, so the British rankings could change before the action at SW19 kicks
off.
Missing from both Entry Lists are the likes of
Harriet Dart, Dan Evans and Heather Watson, but it is highly likely that all
three will be granted wildcard entries for the competition as they are usually
awarded to mostly British players.
On current form,
Draper is likely to feature in most of the headlines
that the tournament creates, but whilst Boulter is still waiting for her real
breakthrough moment at Wimbledon, eyes will be on Raducanu as she was the
standout British singles player at last years competition given she was the
only one to reach the second week.
The British headlines will be only one part of
the story this year though as there are going to be plenty of well known names
on display and with in excess of 12 Grand Slam champions taking part, whilst
there will definitely be those who are looking for a fan favourite to take the
crown once again, there will be those who are looking for an up and comer to
steal the available silverware.
