2025 Australian Open to launch innovative AO 1 Point Slam for local club players during opening week

With several changes set for the 2025 season, the Australian Open will be the first event to implement a new innovation, referred to as the Australian Open 1 Point Slam.

The Australian Open is set to kick off on Sunday, January 12, 2025. However, this new event is slated to take place on Thursday, January 9,2025 at 1pm in the Kia Arena. The event will occur during the Melbourne Slam's opening week, alongside a handful of other festivities.

What to know about the AO 1 Point Slam

  1. The Australian Open 1 point slam will feature a 32-player draw that will have 16 local club players, eight men and eight women, face 16 pros in the first round.
  2. A coin toss determines who serves and receives at the beginning of each match.
  3. The amateurs get two serves while the pros get just one.
  4. Whoever wins the point, wins the match and progresses to the next match. The player that loses the point is knocked out.
  5. There will be five rounds or 31 matches in total
  6. The winner takes home $60,000 in prize money.
