Former world number one Angelique Kerber is firmly planning to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris - and is eagerly awaiting a joint mixed match with Alexander Zverev.
"Thanks to the special ranking, it also looks like I'll be playing in Paris. It would be my third Olympic Games and I'm extremely excited," said Kerber in an interview with Sports Illustrated: "I think Alex and I will have a very cool week."
Kerber, who slipped down the world rankings after her long maternity leave, will most likely benefit from her three Grand Slam victories, which entitle her to participate in the Olympics (26 July to 11 August) in the French capital via a special ranking.
She last played mixed doubles with Zverev at the United Cup in Sydney at the start of the year, after which the two spoke for the first time about a possible joint start in Paris.

Laura Siegemund also showed interest

Doubles specialist Laura Siegemund, winner of the mixed doubles at the French Open, had also expressed interest in competing with Zverev - but will probably miss out. Kerber is really looking forward to the Olympic Games.
"Playing for Germany, this atmosphere, the Olympic Village: these are all very special things and a huge honour," said the player from Kiel, who is still not really getting into her stride after her comeback and was knocked out in the first round in Berlin.
