Sylvain Bruneau, coach of US Open winner Bianca Andreescu has given an update on the injury to the Canadian teenager which she suffered at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen.
Andreescu had to retire in Shenzhen and there was real fears that she would be out for some time but her coach said that they are seeing the doctors and that hopefully it is under control.
He added that he hopes it doesn't delay proceedings too much and that they are going to take a rest with it being the right time to do so.
"We are seeing a few doctors now and it looks like she is going to need some time off and a rehab," Bruneau said. "But, it seems like it will hopefully be under control and it's not going to be something that's going to be too dangerous.
So, hopefully, that's the case, it was enough that she had to stop and not play in the final match. She's going to take a couple of weeks now for rest and rehab. It was a bit of a downer because she was super-excited to be at the tournament.
She wanted to be in the top four and do even better. It was kind of a cold shower, that knee injury. Hopefully, this injury is not going to delay things too much, we were going to take a rest anyway. Bianca was going to enjoy two weeks off so timing-wise, it's not like there's a big tournament coming up, I guess she should be fine.
