Camila Giorgi has endured a very dramatic tennis career which has seen her in the spotlight for an array of reasons. However, this time it is for fantastic news with her now a mum to a baby boy.
She announced the news on her
Instagram story. The baby, called Magnus, is the latest addition to the Giorgi family with husband, Andreas Ignacio Pasutti, both revelling in the news that occurred on September 19.
It is a huge milestone for the Italian away from the court as she starts a family. It was initially announced that she was pregnant with her first child back in February. Around that time, both Giorgi and Pasutti, a former tennis player who is now a coach,
got married, a huge new chapter for both of them.
Giorgi has chosen to split her time between Argentina, which is where Pasutti is from, and her native Italy, where she has been in trouble over the
past with tax evasion. The 34-year-old will want to put all that behind her with this new family the main focus on her mind.
Tennis comeback closer
Giorgi last competed in a tennis tournament at the 2024 Miami Open. It did not end well, losing in straight sets against Iga Swiatek with just two games won. A couple of months later, she announced her retirement from the sport.
She was a top 30 player, climbing as high as 26th in the world in 2018. Her most significant moment came at the 2021 Canadian Open, where she stunned Karolina Pliskova for the biggest of her four WTA title triumphs. Her best Grand Slam result was in 2018, when she reached the quarter-final of Wimbledon.
Camila Giorgi may be making a return to tennis in the near future
It was a huge surprise to tennis when she decided to abruptly retire from the sport. It was not a poignant one which involved some sort of farewell. Tennis fans only found out after her name suddenly appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) public list of retired players.
This linked with the rumours of her fleeing Italy to live in the USA regarding tax discrepancies. She urged fans to ignore the rumours swirling round following her silent disappearance from public life.
She has soon stepped back into the spotlight, most recently for becoming a mother. Not just that, but a possible return to the court. The Italian had indicated her ambitions to get back competing on court for the first time since 2024 in the 2027 season.
Giorgi will obviously not be ranked, relying on wildcards and qualifying to get into a number of events. It will be a fascinating return if it is ever completed, with the noteworthy challenge of balancing motherhood with a full-time tennis career. These next steps of her life will be closely followed by intrigued fans who will want to see her back competing on court.
