Kyrgios shares mental health journey

In an interview following Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios delved into the topic of mental health in a conversation on Instagram. The social media platform is running a series of videos promoting mental health, and Kyrgios was one of the featured advocates in a candid interview.
"I looked at myself and thought, I can't do this, I have to somehow change these habits. Honestly, I feel like sh**. I feel like I've let so many people down," the video begins, showing clips of some of Kyrgios's outbursts on the court, such as smashing his racket or losing control.
"I used to struggle a lot in the early parts of my career. In 2019, I was self-harming and went through a stage where I was suicidal. I feel like I was able to learn so much through that and make it out of it, and still play at the absolute top level," he said in the recent interview.
"Everyone goes through these problems," he added. "You have to take care of yourself, you have to be a bit selfish sometimes, to be able to be the person you want to be around other people."
The former Wimbledon runner-up, added: "I'm not perfect, and if you look at some other players, they portray themselves as gods and super perfect. Where I was, I've been a mess basically my entire life, but I'm still able to come out and help people and do it my way."
