Juan Martin Del Potro sustained a broken patella (kneecap) in 2018 and despite his best efforts, he could not escape his 3rd since sustaining the injury.

Juan Martin Del Potro burst onto the scene in 2009 when he shockingly defeated Roger Federer in the 2009 US Open. Not many people would have thought that would be his last grand slam but unfortunately, he is yet to win another one. Severely hampered by all sorts of injuries since then he is still fighting to come back to the courts.
Knee problems plagued him for years but a broken patella in 2018 is giving him many problems. Despite undergoing two surgeries on it and following advice of doctors the pain in his knee persisted every time he stepped onto the court. So doctors recommended another knee surgery which Del Potro underwent recently in Switzerland.
There is no timetable for his return yet but the Argentine vowed to come back to tennis and his willpower was never in question. We hope for a quick recovery and return to tennis. He last played in 2019 and his last stellar run was in 2018 when he reached number 3 on the rankings.
