The name of Coco Gauff is well known in the world of tennis due to the 15-year olds early career success but now her father has been recognized as a central figure in it.

Corey Gauff, the father of Coco Gauff, has been named the PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) Coach of the Year. Gauff became famous after she upset Venus Williams in the 1st round of Wimbledon last year. She would repeat that this year at the Australian Open. Her two sensational wins over Venus Williams made her world-famous but it wasn't an accident. She continued her great run in Australia eventually losing in the 4th round.
She jumped to a career-high 51 in the WTA Rankings. During those winning runs, she continually gave credit to her father. She pointed out how he had a good eye for detail pointing out crucial things in matches allowing her to overcome her opponents. One such situation happened in 2017 when she won her 1st title in Linz against Ostapenko.
After the match Coco said:
"He gave me the best advice. I guess he didn't really tell me how to play - just to stay calm and stay focused - even though I wanted him to tell me how to play, he didn't need to tell me what side, what spot to hit too because I was already up 5-2 in the third set. After the match, he told me that he knew that I already knew what I needed to do to win, but he was just trying to calm me down. I think he could tell that I was a little bit anxious because it was close to the end of the match. He calmed me down, and it worked."
