Simona Halep had a very good February particularly when she was in Dubai, a tournament she won and which earned her a WTA player of the month nomination.
The Dubai Duty Free Championship was an extremely good tournament held some time ago. The winner of that tournament was Simona Halep who defeated Elena Rybakina in a magnificent final which was worthy of a grand slam. It was her 20th career title which earned her votes for the February 2020 Player of the month.
The Player of the month award is awarded by WTA.com and the method behind it is simple. WTA.com selects 3 finalists after which a fan vote decides who wins it. This time around the 3 finalist's were: Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka and Kiki Bertens.
After a fan voting process, it was revealed that Simona won the affection of the fans and hence the award. She recently pulled out of the Indian Wells tournament due to injury. It was revealed yesterday that the tournament itself won't go ahead because of the Coronavirus threat.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
