Speaking to the German newspaper Zeit Roger Federer admitted that retirement is near but he still has goals for the tennis court.

Roger Federer has not played a tennis match since his semifinal loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. While that is a long time there many different reasons as to why. Federer used the season suspensions as a means to heal some of the injuries that have bothered him for some time. But he is well aware that he is playing less and less and that injuries are piling up quickly. Speaking to the German Zeit Federer admitted that retirement is closer and he will miss tennis once it happens:
“In principle, I only was concerned with my health, but now I miss the feeling of playing in a full stadium. I know that the time to retire is getting closer and closer and I think I will miss the circuit very much. I must be patient and keep working. It would be easy to have retired at this juncture, but I want to continue giving myself the opportunity to enjoy tennis. I will take some time to get back in good shape."
Federer has still many goals for his tennis career and at the forefront are Wimbledon and the Olympics. Whether he will manage to remains to be seen but once Roger steps onto the court the hunger is clearly visible in his eyes.
