After a solid showing in Australia Federer opted to do some charity exhibition matches with Nadal in Africa he also admitted uneasiness with some of the criticism he receives.

Roger Federer held a few exhibition matches in Africa to raise money for charitable causes. He played Nadal in Cape Town and set a new attendance record for tennis. The operation itself was also a success as they raised over 3 million dollars for charitable causes.
After those matches he gave a long interview to Tages Anzeiger where he said:
"I am sometimes misused for certain purposes." While the statement might seem vague he explained further:
"When I help one person, I am criticized for not doing it with others. I have reached a point where I have to think carefully about what I am doing. I can't be everywhere, I can't do everything. I am also a father and a tennis player."
He further added:
"I am aware that I can make a difference, take the microphone and address certain things. But I can't do that all the time. I know I can make a difference with my popularity. For others, for the planet, for the animals."
It's clear that some of the criticism is getting to Federer who is doing quite a bit of charitable work. He will certainly continue to do that especially after retiring which many consider might be even this year. He concluded the interview by saying:
"And I think it's good what has recently been raised about collective consciousness. It is important that you choose the right things at the right time and get your message across in a fair way. Not by attacking others."
So Federer is obviously aware that as a very famous public person he is going to be criticized often, but he so far he is doing his best in dealing with it in a respectful way which has always been a hallmark of his.
