After reports swirled in the German press earlier in the year, former World No.1
Ana Ivanovic and former Manchester United and Bayern Munich star, Bastian Schweinsteiger have split up, it has been confirmed.
The lawyer and representative of ivanovic moved to confirm the reports to prominent German publication BILD which was also confirmed via
Marca. This report confirmed that they decided to part ways owing to 'irreconcilable differences' but that no further statement would be made. Christian Schertz, the representative of Ivanovic further commented saying: "The fans understand and let them have their own space."
In particular they called for the privacy to respected due to the couple having young children together. They got married in 2016 and have three children.
In April, publications including Bunte in Germany had mooted the split saying that the couple were going through a tough time due to their contrasting lifestyles. Schweinsteiger has more of a role nowadays travelling as a sports broadcaster doing commentary and punditry duty.
While Ivanovic was back reportedly in Serbia looking after their three children. She has been back on court as of late playing exhibitions including against Martina Hingis and also as ever in legends invitationals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Her last social media posts saw her at SW19.
The famous sporting couple met in 2014 and married in Venice in 2019. Ivanovic won Roland Garros in 2008 but despite being only 29, the Serbian retired from the sport citing constant injuries. She started a family with the footballing icon and have been together ever since.
They famously crossed paths for the first time in 2014 while Schweinsteiger was still in his pomp playing for Bayern Munich. He became more of a jet setter after leaving the German giants playing for Manchester United and Chicago Fire before winding down his illustrious career. He has now moved into commentary and punditry.
He rented the same park used for the film Notting Hill to propose to ivanovic. They got married in 2016 in Venice with the likes of Lukas Podolski and Angelique Kerber there in attendance.
Their last public appearance came during the Laver Cup last September with the tournament hosted in Berlin. They then shared an Instagram post of themselves at a Christmas market last year which was the last update.
Ivanovic like alluded to has still been posting but not of the couple since then. Reports then emerged in June that Schweinsteiger was seen kissing another woman called 'Silva' who it is believed to be his new girlfriend. Reports in German media claimed they met at their children's school.
Previously Ivanovic was asked by Tennis Warehouse about potentially her kids following in the family footsteps and she said that there is no pressure for them to do so. "We would love our kids to be interested in sports, but we will not put extra pressure on them to play a particular sport. We want them to pursue their own passions, no matter what they are."
As well as giving advice to them in the same interview. "Always stay grounded and be appreciative of those around you. No one ever gets to the top alone; it takes support and teamwork from others. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment when the spotlight is on you, and it’s great to enjoy that spotlight but to remember that fame and success is not the end all, be all."
She also commented on missing competing at the time. "I loved being on court and competing. Walking onto a big stadium like Arthur Ashe and hearing all of the support and love from the fans, it’s an amazing feeling. There are times when I miss being on Tour, but I’m also grateful to be at home raising my children and being with my husband. It’s also nice not being on a plane once a week!"
