"He would have laughed in my face": Monfils believes father who earned 20 francs an hour wouldn't have believed son's rise to top 10

Gael Monfils has undergone a career resurgence as of late after failing to win a game initially in his comeback and despite being in the twilight of his career, he is happy with how it has gone.
Monfils was asked about whether he would be happy with the path he has taken reaching the top 10 in the world and he said his father would've laughed in his face if he would've told him that would've been achieved.
11 career titles, French Open and US Open semi-finalist and over 20 million in prize money which Monfils also put in perspective by saying his father earned 20 francs an hour hence why he would've laughed in his face.
Albeit not retiring yet, it has been a barometer of a superb career for the entertaining Frenchman.
“Of course I will be happy with my career at the end. They forget where you come from. If someone had told me that I was going to become a professional player... If I had told my father, who earned 20 francs per hour, that I was going to be in the top 10 in the world once, he would have laughed in my face," he said as per UTS.
