Iga Swiatek praises Rafael Nadal: 'He has achieved so much and stayed humble'

Iga Swiatek and Mikaela Shiffrin have become good friends, speaking to each other often and sharing their Instagram conversations with their fans about various issues.

In the most recent one, two successful athletes spoke about dealing with the pressure and the importance of psychology. Iga didn't miss a chance to mention her favorite player Rafael Nadal again, stating that Rafa was the only player whose matches she watched when she was a teenager. Honoring Rafa both on and off the court, the young Pole reminded that Rafa has achieved so much while staying humble and simple.

Swiatek has Nadal's signed T-shirt on her wall at home, and she can't stop repeating how lucky she was to share the trophy with him at Roland Garros last year. In October 2020, Rafa and Iga claimed Roland Garros titles without losing a set.

The young Pole won her maiden WTA title and became the youngest Parisian champion since Monica Seles in 1992! During that fortnight, Swiatek didn't hide her support towards her favorite player Nadal, wishing him to win the title, which Rafa did in style to join Iga on the podium.

"In tennis, I didn't even have any idol because when I was younger, I didn't watch tennis that much. I like Rafa Nadal; he's the best. There's a T-shirt with his signature on my wall. I admire Rafa, not only on the court but also off the court, because he seems like a humble guy. Success didn't change him. I like his style of game. It's like if I watched a match, I would watch Rafa," Iga Swiatek said.
