Famous tennis coach
Patrick Mouratoglou has expressed his
desire to see some changes in the rules of the game. There has been a lot of
talk about the need to change rules to make the sport more interesting for
the younger generation.
Most recently, there has been a major change in tennis rules
set to be applied from January 1, 2025. Players will be allowed to have
in-match coaching from their respective coaches. Some have opposed that rule,
whereas others have supported the idea.
Famous tennis coach Mouratoglou became the latest high-profile
individual to express his desire to see some changes in tennis rules to make it
interesting for fans. The 54-year-old believes that the rule should be changed so
that players are allowed to have only one serve, which will reduce the number
of aces and serve winners in tennis. Mouratoglou also believed that the break
between points, serves, and games need to be reduced to ensure that fans will
not have to wait 25 or 30 seconds for some action.
‘There should only be one serve,” he said. “Because
otherwise, with the quality of the servers now, there are too many aces, serve
winners, and it’s boring for the people. You know, [nowadays] you have one
second of play and then 25 or 30 seconds of wait – it doesn’t work.”
Mouratoglou is not the only notable name in the world of tennis
who has come out and suggested some meaningful changes in the sport. Earlier, the
former world number one and Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic suggested
that only the men’s semifinal and final matches at Grand Slams should have five
sets. As things stand, in the men’s singles category, every match can go up to
five sets, whereas in the women’s singles category, the match can only last for
three sets.
