The
US Open Mixed Doubles Championship is set to take place throughout two days from August 19-20 as a prerequisite tournament before the singles action starts the following week. Last year, like the rest of the singles and doubles events, the mixed doubles was held over two weeks, with Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori clinching the title.
The defending champions will return unlike the majority of doubles specialists who have been snubbed for a long list of high profile singles stars like
Novak Djokovic,
Carlos Alcaraz,
Iga Swiatek,
Emma Raducanu and many more to make up this two day event.
Traditionally, mixed doubles has struggled for attention compared to singles and men’s/women’s doubles. By moving the event into a shorter format, the USTA is aiming to deliver something fresh. Big names who rarely enter doubles are now the centrepiece, with intriguing pairings such as Naomi Osaka with Gael Monfils, or Alcaraz lining up alongside Raducanu.
The changes give fans a chance to see Grand Slam winners and top-10 stars in unfamiliar territory, where quick chemistry and tactical adaptability will be crucial. With the competition played over just two days, every match has added urgency and there is no room to ease in slowly with a $1 million prize pot for the winners this year.
Matches are set to start 11am local time which would be 4pm BST for people looking to tune in today. Format wise, the tournament has sixteen pairs ready to compete through four rounds. Bouts up to the final will be played in a best-of-three format, with sets going to four games. Sudden-death points will be used at deuce, and if the score reaches 4-4, a tiebreak will decide the set. Should the match go the distance, a 10-point tiebreak will replace the third set. The final follows the same rules, but with traditional six-game sets instead.
With regards of how to view the tournament, it is shown worldwide on a number of broadcast partners. For those wondering how to watch the event, it will depend on where you are based. People who are watching in the UK, the US Open will be shown in full on Sky Sports. This is different to other Grand Slams like Wimbledon where coverage is shown through BBC and BBC iPlayer, along with the French Open which had their footage seen on TNT Sports this year.
In the United States, coverage is handled by ESPN and ESPN2, with extra feeds and on-demand replays available through ESPN+. The broadcaster is expected to highlight the mixed doubles showcase heavily, given the calibre of names involved.
Down under in Australia and the rest of Oceania, coverage will be split between Nine Network and Stan Sport. Stan Sport will stream every match live and on demand, while Nine will provide free-to-air coverage of select fixtures, including finals.
Eurosport will cover most of Europe for this event unless you are Italian where you can make use of Sky Sports Italia or if you are German where US Open coverage is on Sky Sports DACH or Sportdeuchland. Spanish viewers who may want to see Alcaraz can watch via Telefonica/Movistar. Anyone aiming to watch in the Middle East or North Africa can find all the coverage on beIN Sports. Meanwhile Canadians can find US Open coverage on TSN or RDS.
With high-profile singles stars taking centre stage, a condensed two-day schedule, and a $1 million prize at stake, the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship promises thrilling, fast-paced action. Fans around the world can enjoy seeing top players navigate unfamiliar partnerships and intense tactical battles, making every point count. Whether you are watching in New York, London, Sydney, or anywhere in between, this short but star-studded tournament is set to provide some of the most exciting and unpredictable tennis for the tail end of the summer.
