The 2024 edition of the
Miami Open will feature
Pickleball
and Wheelchair events along with the traditional event.
The ATP 1000 event is set to be organised in the month of March
which will feature some of the top players from all over the globe who will be
battling it out to secure the ultimate prize.
Unlike previous editions, this year’s competition will
feature two more formats including the Pickleball and Wheelchair tennis to
entertain the fans. Tournament Director James Blake was quoted in a report where
he stated that they are pleased to welcome such a massive change.
“We are delighted to welcome both wheelchair tennis players
and MLP stars to this year’s Miami Open presented by Itaú,” he said. “We want
to continue to build on the festival atmosphere that is now so synonymous with
the Open and we are proud to be the first 1000 series event to showcase elite
wheelchair tennis and pickleball athletes to our fans.”
In the previous edition, it was the current world number three
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev who lifted the title after beating the current world
number four and the newly-crowned Australian Open champion Italy’s Jannik Sinner
in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
