Gael Monfils spoke about his favorite tournament, Roland Garros, on his Twitch channel as it should have started this week.
The 2020 Roland Garros should have started already on 18th May. However,
it was postponed to 20th September and now many players look back on the tournament as they miss it. Also
Gael Monfils spoke about the French Open as it is his favorite tournament. The Frenchman said:
"It will still be the real Roland-Garros even in September. I will be very happy that it takes place. Playing the tournament would be crazy. We miss our sport like all enthusiasts. It would be a great pride for our sport to be revived. As a youngster, you don't play in front of 10,000 people and you always have the same hype. I always have the same passion. Whatever happens, there will be a lot of people who will give energy in front of the TV. Then, if there are fewer people in the stands, we will have to make a good selection (laughs). He has a good voice, we will take it, you tell the coach that you want to hear it even more," said Monfils.
"It will change things. The best is to play in a full stadium but there, under current conditions, is to be able to play and give happiness first even if the people are not there physically. It will already be a first step. Any sportsman would take it. For me, Roland-Garros really starts in my head today. Obviously, I have a pinch in the heart. It's my favorite tournament, a time when I get together with all my family, all my friends. It's a sacred moment in the Monfils family. It's very weird not to have it and not play right now," Monfils said.
