Many tennis players taking in beaches and sunny climates in their off-season but not Garbine Muguruza who instead took on Mount Kilimanjaro successfully scaling it.
Muguruza got up to the highest peak and documented the sheer difficulty of climbing Africa's tallest mountain saying that she was crying in parts and ready to almost give up.
Despite that she described it as feeling alive after she finished it off. This all has been planned for a while and after consulting with Adidas, one of her main sponsors plans were made and she spent four days hiking in tough conditions and battling the elements in the process.
“We crossed waterfalls, rivers, icy rivers, caves, cliffs, and the hardest: frozen nights,” Muguruza wrote in social media posts.
“At some point, I was crying when my guide told me to not look down at the 300 m free fall.”
“We felt ALIVE!” said Muguruza on social media. “Thanks to my expedition and my guide.”
“Special thank you to my guide for keeping me awake when I collapsed at the glacier,” she added.
