Novak Djokovic spoke about players from the c players getting closer to a Big Three, Federer, Nadal and himself.
Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are still 3 best in the ATP Ranking but the younger players are getting closer. From 4th to 8th place in the ranking, all of the players are 26 years old or younger. Excluding 4th Dominic Thiem, all of the players are younger than 24 years.
Guys like Thiem, Tsitsipas and Medvedev are also pretty successful in H2H against TOP 3. Thiem defeated Federer 3 times during 2019 season, has a 1-1 record against Nadal and a 2-1 record against Djokovic. Overall, against Big Three, Thiem was 7-2 during this season. Daniil Medvedev defeated Djokovic 2 times but struggles against Nadal when he recorded 3 losses. Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Federer twice, and both Nadal and Djokovic once. And so Novak Djokovic spoke about new generation players when he said:
"I think it's a logical and a natural cycle, like you would expect things to happen that way. Roger, Rafa and I were saying that indeed it's going to happen and that we eventually will be replaced in the top three spots. The new guys are going to start winning Slams but we are trying to prolong that kind of a change. It is going to happen sooner or later, the new generation is getting closer and closer."
End of an era and exchange of generations is becoming a popular topic as the young guys are able to beat the Big 3 more and more. And so also Stefanos Tsitsipas spoke about it when he said: "I understand that our tennis era is changing in a way, the top-three are getting older obviously, we are the ones come from behind."
