Rafael Nadal has built an extraordinary legacy in tennis. The Spaniard has had a legendary career filled with titles and accolades, securing 92 singles titles, including 22 Grand Slams, along with Olympic gold medals and Davis Cup victories for Spain.
However, his contributions to the sport extend far beyond his own success. Nadal has dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of tennis players through the Rafael Nadal Academy, which continues to grow and expand internationally.
Founded in 2016 in his hometown of Manacor, Mallorca, the academy provides young athletes with a high-performance tennis training program combined with academic education. It offers aspiring players everything they need to succeed, preparing them both on and off the court.
The academy has become a global institution, with centres in Kuwait, Greece, and Mexico, operating in state-of-the-art facilities designed to help young talents develop their potential. The project has already produced professional players and is expected to continue shaping future tennis stars.
In November 2023, investment firm GPF Capital became involved with the academy to help accelerate its international expansion. Nadal expressed excitement about this partnership at the time:
"I am very excited to start this stage of international expansion and begin to locate the academy in different parts of the world."
"For many years, we have worked to consolidate the academy in Mallorca and have begun to be in different parts of the world."
Now, Nadal has sold 44.9% of the business to GPF Capital for €94.1 million, a significant move that reflects the growing success and global reach of the academy. Despite the sale, Nadal retains the majority share, ensuring he remains in control of the academy’s future direction.
He reaffirmed his satisfaction with the academy's progress and the collaboration with GPF:
"I am personally very satisfied with everything we have been doing so far. This satisfaction, coupled with the academy's proven success, sets the stage for an exciting phase of international expansion with the support of GPF, who shares our values, vision, and enthusiasm."
The Rafael Nadal Academy has already achieved great success, and with this new investment, it is poised for even greater expansion. Nadal’s commitment to developing the sport ensures that his influence will continue to shape the next generation of tennis players, even after his retirement from the professional circuit. Furthermore, it will be in interesting to see how the dynamics of the partnerships play out.
