Despite retiring over two years ago, WTA legend
Serena Williams still tries to remain active in the tennis community. However, the former World No.1 admitted to missing out on several important invents, such as the retirement announcement of
Rafael Nadal, as she faces some health concerns.
Nadal announced he would be hanging up his racket at the 2024
Davis Cup Finals in Malaga in November. The 22-time Grand Slam champion has struggled with injury over the past two years, and decided to call it quits after missing two of the four Grand Slam events this season.
Williams unaware of Spaniard's retirement due to focus on her health
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion underwent an MRI for a lump in her neck in May of this year. Subsequently, she has been in and out of the hospital as she receives treatment for the ailment.
During her recovery, Williams took to social media to share her health update with fans. Furthermore, she revealed she has been out of the loop over the last few weeks, missing out on Nadal's retirement announcement and being unable to receive the Glamour Woman of the Year award in person.
"So many things I missed like @glamourmag Woman of the Year awards, @RafaelNadal retirement and I am still recovering, but getting better. Health always comes first," wrote the American on Twitter.
