Tennis News
In a new "Daily Dose of Social Media," ATP and WTA stars stole the spotlight in a touching video featuring Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Świątek, and Carlos Alcaraz. They surprised fans with a live appearance while fans were recording what they thought were video messages for them.
Elsewhere, Alcaraz was seen with a unique wrestling mask he received as a gift after practice. Frances Tiafoe shared a fun moment with Diana Shnaider after the Russian gifted him a bandana. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka showed details of her recovery process after a battle of more than three hours against Emma Raducanu.
A star-studded surprise: Sinner, Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Alcaraz connect with fans
The ATP and WTA stars surprised their fans in an unexpected appearance during fan photo sessions. The Cincinnati Open organizers put together an interesting video for their social media, where some fans recorded video messages supposedly for the players. Unbeknownst to them, the stars were listening live.
The emotional video featured some of the tennis world's most prominent names, including defending champions and world No. 1s Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, and multiple Grand Slam champions Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek. They all made a surprise appearance while the messages were being recorded, sharing a particularly moving moment with the fans. Check out the reactions of the stars and fans in this emotional video shared on the Cincinnati Open's social media.
A friendly exchange: Tiafoe receives coveted bandana from Shnaider
Frances Tiafoe and Diana Shnaider shared a friendly moment on the Cincinnati Open practice courts. It all started after Tiafoe had been telling the Russian player for months that he wanted a bandana like hers. Shnaider is known for wearing bandanas, a distinctive look that sets her apart from her peers on the tour. This time, "Big Foe" received a bandana as a gift from Shnaider, and they took a smiling photo together that was shared on social media.
Tiafoe, the 2024 Cincinnati finalist, is already in the Round of 16, where he will face Holger Rune for a spot in the quarterfinals. On the other hand, Shnaider suffered a surprising debut loss to lucky loser Yue Yuan in a three-set battle, which continues her loss of momentum from the last year, causing her to lose ground after spending months on the brink of breaking into the top 10. Shnaider is currently ranked World No. 22 in the live rankings.
Alcaraz embraces a Mexican wrestling mask after practice
Carlos Alcaraz received a unique gift while signing autographs in Cincinnati after his last practice session. The Spaniard survived a tough first-round match against Damir Džumhur and was back on the practice courts on Monday, hoping to improve his form after a shaky debut where he ultimately won on pure class.
After his morning practice, the Spaniard was signing autographs and received a special gift from his Mexican fans who came to see him: a traditional wrestling mask. He didn't hesitate to try it on and have some fun while a photo was taken of him with the memorable gift.
Sabalenka recovers after grueling battle
Aryna Sabalenka also spent her day signing autographs, though in her case, it was in the minutes after finishing her third-round match against Emma Raducanu. The world No. 1 survived a brutal, three-hour-plus battle in the main stadium, defeating Raducanu for the third consecutive time after a tight match that was decided in a third-set tie-break.
The three-time Grand Slam champion later shared a series of photos of her post-match recovery, where she was seen taking an ice bath in her recovery work after the over three-hour battle with Raducanu. Sabalenka is preparing for her Round of 16 match on Wednesday, where she will face Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who has defeated rivals like Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend on her way.
Cilic and Dodig enjoy fishing trip in Croatia
Croatian stars Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig—a former doubles world No. 1—reunited, but this time not on the court. The two tennis legends went fishing together in the Adriatic Sea during some free time before they both head to New York for the US Open. They posted a photo of the large fish they caught together.
Fernandez posts message after another early loss
Leylah Fernandez left a message on social media after suffering another early defeat during the North American hardcourt swing. The Canadian started her U.S. campaign in the best possible way, winning her first WTA 500 title at the D.C. Open in late July. Despite high expectations following the most important title of her career, she has faced disappointing losses in her subsequent appearances, first at the Canadian Open and now at the Cincinnati Open.
Fernandez, who entered as the 21st seed, couldn't do much against the inspired Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, who won 6-3, 6-3, sending the Canadian No. 1 home early. “It hurts to fall, but it’s easier to get back up when I have all of you behind me. I like to think every setback is just a setup for the comeback. See you guys in Monterrey and then at the US Open,” she posted on social media.

- One step by another step -- WTA continues to 'lose the plot'. Too many hi-tech microphones being installed at most venues!!! Remove them (especially those along the hallways, sidewalks, and pathways throughout the venues. Not to mention (most of all) remove the mic's from the Players/Coaches Box.

mandoist06-11-2026 - Don't you just love this young lady!? We fans often expect athletes to be supermen and superwomen, often forgetting that they WILL GET TIRED! I love Alex's perspective. Tiredness for an athlete should never be viewed as a negative, especially if you are healthy, taking care of your body and mental health and putting in the work. What a mature perspective. Good for you, Alex!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Jess is absolutely correct! But the disrespect is a trait I have noticed in most of the Russian players. Mirra is good but very immature and lacks humility. Conceivable needs to get a handle on that!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
mandoist05-11-2026 - Okay... someone with a camera was EAVESDROPPING on a private conversation. Shouldn't that be the point of discussion here? Regardless of the sensationalist crap by media, Pegula (and anyone) has a right to an opinion. There used to be an expectation that private conversations were respected, regardless of 'stardom' and whatever other defensive excuses media tries to shove in our faces. Boo-hoo if feelings are hurt. BTW: Having been employed at various tourney venues, etc., I can't tell you how nasty and offensive players can be when discussing their opponents and colleagues... in "private". Well, I could, but won't. I also challenge anyone to deny what Jessica said is false.

mandoist31-10-2026 - Osaka's mental state apparently does not allow her to reach any more Quarter Finals? I mean, she doesn't really have the time for tennis with all the pre-planning that must go into her 12 year-old "fashion" goals.
