Not only did Jannik Sinner have the best season of his career, but the rising star accomplished another noteworthy feat by ending the year as the first ATP or WTA Italian player to finish in the top five on the rankings table.
The 22-year old ended the 2023 season ranked as the World No.4, solidifying an already impressive year with a great finish. Not only did Sinner reach the Wimbledon semifinals, but he also ended the year by reach the final of the ATP Finals, and leading Italy to their second-ever Davis Cup title.
The Innichen native ended the year as one of the hottest player on tour, dominating at the ATP Finals where he defeated World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the group stage. Furthermore, Sinner would go on to again beat the Serbian twice in one day at the Davis Cup Finals, en route to clinching the title for his home nation.
By virtue of his year-ending ranking, Sinner eclipsed a mark set by other Italian greats who came before him. He finished the year ranked inside the top 5, a feat that had never been done by Italian legends Adriano Panatta, Francesca Schiavone and Sara Errani.
