Former US Open champion,
Marin Cilic has expressed solidarity with
Simona Halep following her four year ban from tennis due to doping violations. The former World No.1 has not been on the WTA Tour since the 2022 US Open when she first tested positive.
Since then, she has battled to even have a tribunal with constant delays before the verdict was actually reached earlier this week. Some have reacted scathingly such as Serena Williams and Eugenie Bouchard.
In the case of Marin Cilic among others, they have backed Halep to beat the allegations and get through a challenging period.
Cilic himself previously was banned in 2013, but had his suspension reduced by CAS due to the degree of fault involved and deeming the sanction too harsh.
"Stay strong Simona, their ruling counts for nothing," Cilic wrote on X.
"I am continuing to train and do everything in my power to clear my name of these false allegations and return to the court. I intend to appeal this decision to The Court of Arbitration for Sport and pursue all legal remedies against the supplement company in question," Halep initially said in a statement posted on X.
