French tennis star
Gael Monfils has asked the couple of
Greece’s
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Spain’s
Paula Badosa to take advice from his wife
Elina Svitolina to name themselves.
Tsitsipas and Badosa went public about their affair recently
started calling their couple ‘Tsitsidosa’.
Monfils, who is married to Ukraine’s number one tennis
player Svitolina, has a family name GEMS which stands for (G)ael, (E)lina, M(onfils),
S(vitolina).
The 36-year-old, while expressing best wishes for Tsitsipas
and Badosa, revealed that it was his wife who came up with the GEMS name and
that she might be the best person to give solid advise to the new power couple
in the circuit.
"You know, it’s funny because someone told me about
that. GEMS Life, the community manager was 100 percent Elina Svitolina,” he said.
“So they need to ask her for anything. But it’s always great to see a couple in
tennis.
"Yeah, and it’s nice to see that it can happen. I
always wish all the couples the best. It’s something tough to describe because
it’s very personal. But I hope every couple in tennis can enjoy themselves and
be happy together.”
On the court, Monfils had another frustrating outing in the Citi
DC Open where he was knocked out from the third round after losing to Tallon Griekspoor
of Netherlands with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
